Sherita Leslie has made a career of beautifying people. SLA got to ask her a few questions to use makeup to enhance our natural beauty! Let's start with how Sherita first got interested in this field, in her own words:
Sherita: Ever since I could remember I have always loved makeup. When I was in high school I remember I would makeup all of my friends before we would go out or a big event. This is how I first learned to apply makeup on different faces.
Question: Who are some of your clients?
Sherita: I live in Nashville so I work a lot in country and gospel music. I have worked with record companies such as Universal and EMI. I have had my work published in magazines US Weekly, Country Weekly, Hope Today, First Magazine and Nashville Lifestyles.
Question: What do you love most about your job?
Sherita: I love my job because it's something different each day. One day it may be a photo shoot for a magazine and the next day a music video. I think that it is amazing that I get to travel flying across the country doing something that I love. I love the look on my client's face when I've made them up for the first time. The little boost of confidence that makeup brings is amazing.
Question: What is the makeup trend of the fall season?
Sherita: The season is all about celebrating your uniqueness. Pick your favorite feature and really make it pop. On the eyes you will see a lot of gold, which is a color that looks great on everybody. Another trend you will see on the eye is pops of vibrant color. The lips this season will lean more towards rosy wines and raspberry hues.
Question: What is the most important tip for young girls when applying makeup?
Sherita: The most important makeup tip is less is more. Makeup is supposed to accent your beauty, not create a whole new face. Play and experiment with different colors and hues to find out what you like. Buy a set of makeup brushes to learn to lightly apply your makeup. Brushes lightly brush the skin with color so the effects are usually softer.
Question: 5 beauty tips for Tweens?
Sherita: 1. Foundation is too heavy for teen skin, which makes a tinted moisturizer the perfect cover up. A great inexpensive one is Olay Touch of Sun.
2. Only put acne products on your breakouts. Normal healthy skin becomes dried out when you overuse acne products in areas that never breakout. When you overuse acne products it forms a layer of dead skin that blocks the normal release of oil and cause more breakouts!!
3. Choose products that are non-comedogenic. These products are designed not to clog your pores.
4. Try out a crème blush instead of powder. Crème blushes are lighter and give you a beautiful glow.
5. Always start with less eye shadow than you think you will need and build up. Look at yourself in the mirror. Keep adding a little at a time. That way you will never have too worry about adding too much.
