Safeteen
Shop Like Anna is dedicated to the online safety of our users and has taken many steps to ensure that SLA stays a fun, educational and appropriate website. But we can’t do it alone! This Safeteen™ page will help our users and parents understand a little more about our safety protocol as well as provide some important tips on how to keep safe while working online!
What SLA Does…
1. Restricted Sign Up Age- If you’re over the age of 15, our site may not be for you! That’s why your date of birth will not show up on our sign up page. SLA has implemented an age restriction to ensure that the websites user created content stays appropriate for our tween age group. In other words…tweens only!
2. Age Appropriate User Content- Our content is always written with our age group in mind. Although fun and entertaining, it will always be filtered and is written to attract a certain type of user.
3. Parents Are Involved & “Anna Angels™”- Upon sign up it is mandatory to provide a parent or guardian’s email address. The parent is then notified that the user has signed up with Shop Like Anna and is given a contact at SLA should they have any questions. Users are given incentives like “Anna Points” to give a valid parental email.
“Anna Angels™” are made up of SLA staff, moms, aunts, and sisters of users who help to become our eyes and ears and report any atypical behaviors or users on the site.
4. Flagging, Blocking and Reporting- If a user ever feels uncomfortable on SLA they have the ability to flag user created content, and block or even report a user. A message is immediately sent to SLA head quarters where the content and/or user are investigated further.
5. User Sign Up Monitoring & IP Addresses- Upon signing up, a user undergoes a preliminary review by the SLA staff. SLA also logs IP addresses should any further research need to be done.
6. User Controls- On SLA the user has control over their information. No user can be contacted in any way or have their information seen without first approving the “friendship” of another user. When a user is searched on SLA, only their written bio and main photo can be seen so as to identify them to their friends. Any other user content is blocked and can only be seen when the user approves another user as a friend.
What You Can Do….
SLA is working closely with the FBI Cyber Crime Unit and IC3’s guidelines for a safe internet experience. Here are some things that you can do as an SLA user and that parents can do to keep secure.
1. If you feel uncomfortable on a website or in a situation online talk to your parents or guardian about it. You can always talk to SLA! We can be emailed at support@shoplikeanna.com
2. Never give out personal information to anyone over the internet such as your phone number, address, school, or the places you hang out. SLA is a fun place to connect with people your age…anonymously!
3. Be sure you know who someone is before you accept them as a friend. If someone is your friend that you didn’t know before and they ask you personal questions or make you feel uncomfortable, block and report the user!
4. Never turn on your webcam for someone you don’t know! Only go live with family members or friends. If you are not sure, ask a parent!
5. Never meet face to face with someone you have met online!
6. PARENTS utilize parental controls and software.
7. PARENTS spend time on the internet with your child. Have them take you to their favorite websites.
8. PARENTS keep your computer in a common room of the home so that you can keep an eye on the websites your child wanders to.
9. PARENTS, if you feel that your child may be a victim of online exploitation report it to your local and state authorities, as well as the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
10. PARENTS take this Teen Internet Risk Test to see how at risk your child is for unsafe internet behavior.
